Thank you all for for such a wonderful year! Togan Photography made it through its first full year as an offical business. By the end of the year though, it already felt like Toni and I had our craft nailed down. We are both so blessed to have discovered eachothers long standing interest and experience with photography, and even more blessed that we can do this together as a married couple.
2022 was not without it's challenges. Toni and I have both photographed before, but after taking on a couple weddings in 2021 we knew that last year was the year to hone in our off-camera-flash skills. I had some experiance with this already, by way of playing with several cheap brand-less speedlights and gel filters in order to imitate a New York photographer Brandon Woeful. However, it must be said that using real, professional equipment was its own animal. After spending most of our year's earnings on the new equipment, lots of practice in our home basement, and SO MANY YouTube videos, I found the style of off-camera flash I wanted to capture. I helped Toni practice, and every 2022 wedding was much better off.
Of course, a couple new lenses, notably a Nikkor Z 50mm f/1.2 lens, meant that we could take more creative freedom with our photography. Toni and I certainly grew a lot as photographers this year. However, one major growing pain we had was our first negative review. Being completely honest Toni and I were both crushed upon first reading it. After spiraling through the depths of imposter syndrome, reaching out to friends in the photography and arts communities, and looking at the portfolios from photographers we look up to, we eventually overcame our self doubts. The experience certainly helped us grow, with both Toni and I setting goals to ensure something like this doesn't happen in the future.
We're entering the year with 15 bookings already, and we're really looking forward to booking even more. 2022 rounded out the year with 48 different sessions, and now that I've completed my Bachelor's with Toni soon completing her Master's, Togan hopes to take on even more this coming year. Thank you again to everyone who supported us in 2022, and we hope to see you all again in 2023! Cheers!
